Question: Can I take my foster child on vacation with me?

Most case managers encourage foster families to treat their foster children in the same way they would treat their birth children so they feel like a part of the family. They do their best to allow kids to go on vacation so that they are not left out. If your vacation will interrupt a visitation, I recommend you give the case manager as much notice as possible so that they are able to schedule make up visits ahead of time for any visits that would be affected. If you find out your foster child is not able to go on the trip, you can use respite hours provided through a respite licensed family or you can work with the case manager to get approval for someone in your circle that your child knows and would be comfortable staying with.

Thank you for your great question! If you have questions, send them to #youaskedfa or Kim@fosteraz.com
