Question: What does it look like to foster?

Fostering is hard. I would be lying if I said anything different. Your life is filled with other people’s schedules coming into play with how you plan your own schedule. Your home has case managers, licensing workers, therapy appointments, GALs, and others that come and go. You have children that can stay for a day, a month, a year, or even longer and you never know when goodbye could be right around the corner. And despite the uncertainty, you love while many around you question why.

Why would you put yourself through this? Because, foster parents understand that the good they can do in the children’s lives they care for is worth the sacrifice. They understand the call –  If not you, then who? Children deserve to grow up with families; not in orphanages or congregate care. They deserve to know that, if they cannot be with their own family, there are people in their community that will step into the gap and shore them up so that they have hope and a bright future.
