Question: Can a child in foster care go to a charter or private school?

Yes, a child that is in foster care has the ability to go to a school that is outside of the public school system with permission from the case manager. Typically, the first choice would be to have the child remain in their current school. If that is not a possibility or if it creates a safety concern, the next choice would be to place a child in a school that best meets their needs. The majority of school aged kids that are in foster care do go to public school.
