Question: How much does it cost to adopt from foster care?

When most people think of adoption, they think of the costs associated with private adoptions. Fortunately, the costs are not the same when you are adopting from foster care. If you are a foster parent and you adopt a child you have been fostering, there is no costs associated with the adoption. The home study is already covered under the paperwork, training, and home inspection you went through to become a licensed foster parent. If you are looking to adopt only, there is typically an upfront charge for the cost of the home study that is reimbursed once you adopt. This policy was put in place to cover the real costs to the agency associated with the time it takes to put together a home study. Outside of this cost, the court fees and lawyer fees are covered by the Department of Child Safety.
