Question: If I foster, do I have to give out my personal information to the birth family?

No. You are not required to give out your personal information like last name, phone number, address, email, etc. Some foster parents set up an email just for birth families to use as well as phone numbers or Facebook accounts just for fostering. Each foster parent has a different level of comfort that can vary with each birth family situation. You may decide to give more information to one birth family and not to another based on safety risks.

We do encourage foster families to find ways to co-parent with the birth parent at whatever degree they can. Working together for the best interest of the child is always a good idea whenever possible.

Thank you for your great question! If you have questions, send them to #youaskedfa or Kim@fosteraz.com
