Question: Should I transport my foster children to their visits?

The Department of Child Safety is responsible for setting up visits with birth parents after a child comes into care. It is not abnormal to have the case manager ask a foster family if they will help with transportation to visits. If you are comfortable transporting and your schedule permits, it is a great opportunity to connect with the birth parents. If you are asked to supervise a visit, check with your agency as several agencies discourage their families from supervising visits. We recommend not supervising visits because of the liability as well as it complicates co-parenting when you are responsible for reporting any concerns to the case manager while supervising a visit.
