Question: What if my friends and family are not supportive of me fostering?

Fostering and adopting is incredibly rewarding but also very challenging. I cannot imagine going through this journey without a support system around me. There are days that I call for help because I simply need a break from the everyday challenges. If you are looking to foster and/or adopt, I would encourage you to find those people that will support and encourage you. There are foster and adoptive support groups you can join after that will offer encouragement and be able to relate to you in real and valuable ways, but I would also find support from people that are not directly involved.

If your immediate family is not supportive, you may want to spend some time as a family working through this prior to moving forward with getting licensed. Most agencies will interview everyone in the household to be sure that the family is on the same page with bringing a child into the home.
