Question: Will my foster child be happy to join our family?

Kids can come into care due to physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect that causes safety concerns. That does not mean that kids are excited to come into foster care. They can have an array of feelings; anger, sadness, fear, confusion. Do not be surprised or hurt if they are not excited to be in your home. Many kids will be on their best behavior for several days. This is usually called the “honeymoon period”. After that, you may see an increase in behaviors and emotions. I usually encourage families that it takes about 6 weeks before all the dust settles and things start to feel more normal.
